A Blast of an Afternoon with Esperanza and Dan

This evening, The Anchorage Concert Association is presenting the wonderful and dynamic jazz bassist, Esperanza Spalding. She and her group arrived in town yesterday afternoon. They thought a little sightseeing might be fun - after all this is Alaska and you’ve just got to go see. So, last evening, I took Esperanza and Dan down Turnagain Arm - it’s a jaw dropping scenic drive south out of town. Definitely a big bang for the sightseeing buck.

The weather was cold, windy, and gray. But the fall colors are brilliant and the gray sky and water had an amazing stark cast. Actually quite beautiful. Esperanza and Dan were blown away (almost literally from the wind). The one box we didn’t get to check was a moose sighting. But there’s always next time!

After tonight’s performance, they head up to Fairbanks tomorrow for a performance. I hope the group is prepared for snow. :-)

Here are a ton of pictures. Dan and Esperanza are a ton of fun in front of the camera. And again, the whole gray sky, water, and fall colors were pretty darn nifty.
