No Shortage of Excitement
What a week! Near constant volcanic belching - we’re all constantly monitoring the seismograph, the Redoubt Hut webcam, and Alaska AVO Twitter Stream. The Twitter stream is pretty amazing - tons of folks I know have signed up for twitter in the past few weeks just so they could follow Alaska AVO. Take that Bobby Jindal!
Saturday night, Anchorage got dusted by a light coating of ash. Not enough to be hideous, but enough to darken the snow, dust the cars and trigger asthma. The rotten egg smell was pretty darn impressive.
The big challenge is getting in and out of Anchorage. The ash clouds have wrecked havoc on airline schedules. Folks get trapped up here and can’t get back Outside and folks get trapped in Seattle and can’t get home. Mom managed to squeak out to Seattle yesterday morning in between eruptions. Alaska Airlines has also been making great use of Twitter - they tweet when flights are cancelled, resumed, have wi-fi, etc. Twitter is totally a happening place.
I’ve spent this week getting ready for surgery this morning - another endometriosis clean-out. Getting ready for surgery is like getting ready for vacation, a ton of stuff to do before the big day. Fortunately no packing is involved. I also spent most of yesterday at the Alaska Heart Institute clearing up an abnormal EKG. Turns out that other than a mild-moderate leaky mitral valve, I have an AWESOME heart - as verified by an echocardiogram and my new and totally great Cardiologist. So, I’m cleared to go under the knife this morning.
And finally, the Ski Boy, Tyge, and myself are contemplating an addition to the family: a new puppy! We’re not sure yet, but the fact that we’ve spent the past three days thinking of female bouvier names may indicate the direction in which we’re leaning. The current name list includes: Augustine (the front runner), Pepper (Peter’s favorite but not mine), Fenway, Bosmo, Peeps, Comet (one of mine but boo’d out of the room by Peter and Judy), Skyler, etc.
Below are a few pictures of the puppy scrum:
The litter consisted of five boys and one girl. We’re thinking about the [unbelievably cute and fiesty] little girl. She’s the black one in this picture. She’s chewing on one of her big brothers.

Hello. I am
PEEPS!
Cute puppies.
Hope that things go well on your clean out.
