Egregious Gubernatorial Pandering
Western Alaska is in the midst of a severe six month fuel and food crisis. Fuel can only be delivered to Bush Alaska during the summer. And we all remember this summer’s sky high gas prices - double that $4.50 per gallon of gas and you get the cost of fuel and gas in the Western Alaska. Bush Alaska is not a hotbed of high income - the lifestyle is predominantly subsistence with few regular paying jobs let alone high salaries that can support $9 a gallon fuel oil for heating and gas for snowmachines - the primary mode of transportation in the Bush.
The situation is ripe for strong executive leadership. And actually, US Senator Lisa Murkowski spent quite a bit of time in western Alaska in September holding hearings in impacted villages and starting the problem solving process with village leaders and elders.
But where has Governor Sarah Palin been during last six months? Well, there was the General Election. But that was over and done with on November 4th. Up until this past week, she has not made a single trip to the Bush. She has managed to visit Georgia to campaign for the scurrilous US Senator Saxby Chamblis. She attended the swank Alfalfa Club dinner/gala in DC. But in all this time, not one foray to the Bush.
In terms of showing executive leadership and addressing the problem that affects more than half the state, she has mumbled a few platitudes and basically ignored the issue. She has not stepped up. Good grief, how hard can that be???? Get good staff, get a plan, get out there in the villages, make contact, and get going. Sheesh.
But wait, this week, what happened??? She actually made a trip to the Bush to deliver food supplies. But it was under the auspices of Franklin Grahams’ Christian relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse.
So, the crisis has been on-going for six months and she just now shows up with televangelists to do food drops? Food drops?!!!! Way to paint a picture of Alaska as a 3rd world country. Excellent example of executive leadership.
What’s the difference between Palin abrogating and selling out her leadership on this issue and Hugo Chavez’s posturing when he offered low cost fuel to the Bush.
No difference at all. Just bald faced pandering.
Hello. I am
Perhaps she feels, like many, that it is not the government’s place to act as life raft with constant bailing out?
I’m just saying…
…. and that’s why we all love her so.
