Election Eve
It boggles the mind, but our two year Presidential election campaign is one day from finishing up. The trip this time around has been remarkable. In terms of anticipation, it’s been a combination of Christmas, the 2004 Red Sox, and Moses and the Israelites in the Desert. But, we’ve finally arrived.
I am fifty years old and in my lifetime I have never seen an election generate this much energy and excitement. The are several factors: no sitting incumbent and vice president, the economy, Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama hoopla, Palin hoopla, etc. I also believe that web connectedness and social media have played a huge part. Everyone is watching, reading, writing, twittering, podcasting, etc. The individual involvement is unprecedented. And pretty fabulous.
In terms of candidate support, the distribution of my friends and family runs about 2/3’s Obama and 1/3 McCain. In terms of Election Eve state of mind, the Obama contingent is nervous beyond belief. Their stress level is through the roof. The McCain supporters are resigned but underneath it all, are still hanging on to a few shreds of hope.
Many, but not all of us have voted yet. Several of us are waiting until tomorrow - we want the event atmosphere. This is an election for the ages.
