Getting my Seattle Geek Fix
I just told Andrew that one of the many reasons I enjoy working in the Seattle office is that I get my geek fix. I think I’m the geekiest geek in our Anchorage office. So it’s nice to be somewhere where I’m the junior geek! I get caught up on all the latest cool stuff and applications.
This trip, Andrew helped me fine tune VMFusion on my MacBook Air - particularly the business of \\.host. I can now access all the files in the Mac HD partition from XP running under VMFusion. A very big deal.
I also pilgrimaged to the Apple Store last night and picked up three key items:
- A Mighty Mouse - the Apple Bluetooth Wireless mouse. I’m really a Logitech mouse fan, but they don’t a sexy Bluetooth mouse. Initially, I was quite hesitant - I don’t like the shape of Apple mice. But, I decided to give it a whirl. I’m still not in love with the shape, but the rest of the mouse is fabulous and actually makes up for the shape. It has a very smooth action, the mouse has a wonderful solid acrylic feel, and the buttons are totally slick.
- A USB hub. The Macbook Air has only one USB port. That’s like having only one sock. Useful but not at all adequate. That’s one of the reasons why I picked up a Bluetooth Wireless mouse. I don’t want to waste a USB port on a wireless mouse.
- The new Jawbone wireless headset. Ooooh - half the size of the original and very sweet. I showed it to Andrew. He said he wished I hadn’t shown it to him. Now he’s going to have to get one.
Not a bad trip at all!
