I just told Andrew that one of the many reasons I enjoy working in the Seattle office is that I get my geek fix. I think I’m the geekiest geek in our Anchorage office. So it’s nice to be somewhere where I’m the junior geek! I get caught up on all the latest cool stuff […]

Evidently, Governor Palin had a tanning bed installed in the Governor’s mansion shortly after she took office. Various news outlets are having fun with that. But there are those who think that it must be de rigor for Alaskans to own tanning beds. Ha!!!!
As I commented on the the New York Times site, I’ve lived […]

My guess is that many of you have seen this clip from this week’s Saturday Night Live. But if you haven’t, you must watch. It is absolutely hilarious - no matter your political stripe. And Tina Fey - well, she is an astounding spot-on double for Sarah. You could put the two of them side […]

Yesterday, the Ski Boy was engaged in Fall outside cleanup activities. Tyge and I decided to go out to help. Peter assigned us the job of wrapping up the hose on the wooden hot tub deck. The hose was a tangled challenge and I was in the midst of trying work through the knots when […]

Today is quite the day on the Alaskan bank account front: every man, woman, and child who has been a permanent resident of Alaska for over a year receives a whopping $3269 - that’s real money.
$2,069 is our annual Permanent Fund dividend. The remaining $1200 is the Alaska Resource Rebate, or as we refer to […]

So, early this morning Alaska time, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider was fired up. There was quite a bit of fear mongering in the blogosphere regarding Hadron black hole creation, the Earth getting swallowed up and then spit out into an alternate universe. However, everything went fine this morning - no black holes, no swallowed up […]

Goodness - listening to NPR’s “All Things Considered” is now like listening to Alaska Public Radio’s “Alaska News Nightly”.
It’s all Alaska all the time.
We’ve all read a bazillion articles this week on Sarah and Alaska. Palin’s True North by Timothy Egan of the New York Times is my favorite. It really captures what Alaska is […]

Sarah’s big night is tonight. My guess is that she’s going to hit a home run with her speech. She speechifies well (although her voice can go a bit high) and she’s got the some of the best speechwriters in nation working on her speech. This is her big moment and I don’t think she’ll […]
