In Truckee

Today was a typical epic travel day from Anchorage to just about anywhere in the Lower 48. The Ski Boy dropped me off at the Anchorage Airport this morning at 6:30 AM. I pulled up to the always fabulous Cedar Sport Hotel in Truckee, CA at 7:00 PM this evening. The only thing I’d eaten all day today was a scone, so my tummy was definitely ready for good eats. Happily, as I type, I am extremely well satiated as the result of fabulous dinner at Moody’s. The homemade s’mores are to die for! The only way the evening could have been better is if the Ski Boy had been here with me!

I do admit that early this evening, on the drive from Reno to Truckee, I did do a bit of geocaching in the desert scrub. Hard to resist those caches who call out my name as I drive by. Cache Sirens!!!!!

Here are three pictures of a very nifty desert plant. I have no clue what this guy is, but he is very striking.

Closeup I - I don’t have a macro lens so I sort of kludged a macro. I set the camera to close-up, went to manual focus and maxed the zoom lens in from about 3-4 feet away.

It looks like a thistle of some sort. I just took a photo of a very purple one earlier today on a hike near my place in the Mt. Diablo foothills - must be a related species.

Very nice shooting. You have a good eye.
