Resisting the New 3G iPhone

After much agonizing, I’ve decided to pass on a 3G iPhone for two big reasons:

  1. Rumor has it that AT&T Alascom’s 3G network won’t be ready until January ‘09 at the earliest. 3G - the big reason for the phone - won’t even be usable for quite some time. Given the pace of technology innovation, it doesn’t make sense to spend money on a device whose main feature will lie fallow for over six months.
  2. Currently my cell phone usage is covered by work. If I switch to AT&T, I start paying my monthly cell phone bill. The AT&T plans are painfully expensive. Given my heavy voice and data usage, my monthly bill would be at $120. ugh…

So, I’ll wait. I know that I’ll convert soon after AT&T Alascom goes 3G. But until then, I’ll hang out with my trusty (and pretty nifty) Nokia E70.

UPDATE: The new version of iTunes 7.7 installed and worked just fine. However, when I tried to sync my iPod Touch, iTunes completely locked up. In checking out the forums, other folks are getting nailed with this issue. Hopefully a fix will get rolled out soon.

However, because I have iPod Touch, I do have access to the new app store and some very cool applications for my Touch. I just downloaded the new version of iTunes and am ready to go shopping - well as soon as iTunes 2.0 for the Touch becomes available, late tonight or tomorrow.

I thought you fired the Apple software for Anapod. By the way, that is one of the best software recommendations I’ve had. Thank you much.

I think you ought to get yourself a used, unlocked iPhone 1.0 and run it on the GCI wireless network, so you can have all your iPod Touch actions and still make calls and have your calendar, etc. Get it out of your system. Then go back to Nokia. They really do make the best phones. Can’t believe I almost bought an N73 in Chicago last year 2 months before JesusPhone was born.
