Elton in Anchorage
Friday night, the Ski Boy, myself, and four other friends made the long awaited pilgrimage to the Sullivan Arena (of all places) to catch Elton John in concert. Sir Elton has been at the top of my must-see-in-concert list for years and years. And to see him here in Anchorage was a mind boggling treat.
The performance was great, just Elton and the piano. And amazingly, Elton’s road crew was able to overcome the Sullivan Arena’s infamously bad acoustics. The sound actually worked - it wasn’t stellar, but it was very doable. Which for the Sully is a notable achievement.
Elton is definitely an old school work horse performer - he started right on time at 8:00 PM and played hard for almost three hours without a break. This review in the Fairbanks Daily New Miner captures the essence of Elton’s performance and our reaction to him.
We Alaskans ate him up - we gave him a standing ovation after every song.
It is clear we are a desperate people. And we are a fawning people. But we could do much worse than to be desperate for and fawn over Elton John.
Here are few pictures from Friday’s night’s performance:

Hello. I am
WOOT!
Great pictures! Was that your cell phone or were you able to get a camera in?
My camera - there were a million cameras there - they weren’t banned. We were up high and in the dark - my cell phone wouldn’t have been able to take a good picture if its life depended on it.
