Last Coastal Trail Ski of the Season

This afternoon, during lunch, I drove out to Point Woronzof and the Sewage Treatment Plant, one of the most isolated and shaded - and sometimes smelly, courtesy of sewage treatment - portions of the Coastal Trail. I was in search of ski-able snow. In the past four days, we’ve gone from very nice x-c conditions on the the Coastal Trail to slush and large patches of bare pavement.

The trail south from the Sewage Treatment Plant was icy - but ski-able if one was desperate to squeeze in one more day of skiing in. So, I puttered out and got in 40 minutes of low key skiing.

At the end of my outing, as I was removing my skis, a big front end loader pulled up to the trail opening. The driver hopped out, looked at me, grinned, and stated, “Last ski of the season”.

He then removed the trail’s gating center pole, hopped back in, and started grading his way down the trail where I had just finished skiing minutes earlier. It really was the last ski of the season!
