Dinner with Songya!

Posted by: Steph on February 27th, 2008

Tonight, Songya and I had a marvelous dinner at The Flea Street Cafe. Flea Street came highly recommend via Susannah - and boy did she nail it. Wow! Songya and I knew we were in heaven when we each helped ourselves to a miniature biscuit from the bread basket. I have never had a biscuit […]

Silicon Valley Slat Rat

Posted by: Steph on February 27th, 2008

I’m down in the Redwood City-Menlo Park-Palo Alto area on business.
I have to say that, even though I love winter, it’s pretty nifty to experience warm weather and spring flowers. Ahhhhhhhh…..
Tonight, Songya and I are doing dinner at the Flea Street Cafe. Should be a ton of fun!!!!!

Fur Rondy 2008

Posted by: Steph on February 25th, 2008

We just wrapped up one of my favorite weekends of the year - Fur Rendevous. After a few down years, Fur Rondy experienced a major resurgence this year. Tons of people were downtown for the various events, including a mob for this year’s inaugural Running of the Reindeer a la the the running of the […]

Plato Goes to Kinley’s!

Posted by: Steph on February 17th, 2008

Last night, six of us had a fabulous dinner with superb wine at Kinley’s. We had one bottle of the Coudoulet de Beaucastel Red. It was very well made, large, chewy, and tarry. More in an Italian style than French - at least to my palate. We then had two bottles of the 2004 Ermitage […]

Oooh - Featured ‘PLOG’ on PleoWorld

Posted by: Steph on February 16th, 2008

Ugobe the Pleo creators established a very active user group forum and a community “plogging” (think blog with a “p” for Pleo replacing the “b”) site. I’ve been plogging away and my plog is now one of the featured (temporarily) plogs on the Pleo Community Site.
This means I need to take lots more pictures of […]

Agreeing with Newt

Posted by: Steph on February 15th, 2008

Hell has not quite frozen over, but I do agree with Newt Gingrich’s op-ed column in the NY Times. What happened in Florida in 2000 was wrong. And it doesn’t make it any more right that a Democrat is attempting do the same thing in 2007.
But Newt puts it best:

Contrary to […]

In Denver!

Posted by: Steph on February 9th, 2008

I flew in Denver last night - tomorrow morning, I’m driving down to Colorado Springs for a conference. I spent today knocking about downtown Denver - mainly geocaching. I nailed four caches, so I’m pleased.
Denver seems positively tropical compared to Anchorage. The temperature was 35 degrees this morning and then warmed up to 50. Wow!
This […]

The Deep Freeze Continues

Posted by: Steph on February 8th, 2008

Our cold snap continues - although yesterday and today, it actually warmed up into the teens during the day. But the nights still drop down to 20 below. Quite the temperature swing.
However, we don’t hold a candle to interior Alaska. The Daily News has had several amusing articles on the cold snap. So far, this […]

Deep Freeze

Posted by: Steph on February 6th, 2008

We’re in the midst of a big time cold spell. It hasn’t been this cold for this long in quite some time. We’ve been at 20 below for the past several days - fortunately, we’re warming up to zero for a few hours during the daylight. But as soon as it gets dark, the temperature […]

Anchorage Super Tuesday Aftermath

Posted by: Steph on February 6th, 2008

Well, I was not the only one who was extremely frustrated and disappointed by the massive Democratic Caucus traffic jam. This Daily News arcticle and this APRN piece go into detail.
However, I do admit that I’ve recovered from my grumpiness and have had a good time reading and listening to the various recaps. Alaskans […]
