Anchorage in Winter

The stereotypical view of Alaska is the whole snow, cold and ice deal. However, because Anchorage is located on Cook Inlet which is part of the Gulf of Alaska which in turn is fed by the warm Japanese Current, we can resemble Seattle more than Fairbanks.

Unfortunately, the past few days would be Seattle days: 40 degrees, wind, and rain. Our snow pack is taking a hit. Hopefully the temperature will drop soon and we’ll get some snow. Our parking lot is an ice rink.

Here’s a picture I took on Sunday when it was still winter.
