I finally made it home Sunday evening - almost 17 hours on the road from Kansas. I was greeted by a very happy Ski Boy, an exuberant Tyge, and snow!!!!!
Wow - Snow!!!! That was a real treat (of course, Peter and Tyge were also real treats).
I was so happy to see the snow, that […]

Whoa - quite the whirlwind trip to Kansas. Because of my travel snafus, I spent Thursday and Friday on planes and in airports. After leaving Anchorage on Thursday at 8:00 AM, I finally arrived in Winfield Friday evening, just in time for my 5:30 PM Southwestern Science Advisory Committeee meeting. Yesterday morning and early afternoon […]

I was very excited by Radiohead’s In Rainbows “pay what you want” download experiment. I paid about $12 which was a bit high, but I really wanted to support their efforts. However, evidently, only about 35% of us wanted to support Radiohead’s efforts in any manner. Everyone else downloaded the album for free.

I have to say, I really like NPR’s ambitious new music site, NPR Music. A very broad selection of good music - runs the gamut from classical to jazz to rock/pop/folk. For music browsing, it’s much better than MySpace or Amazon. The combination of a printed story and a concert form provide a much deeper […]

Sometimes Alaska ends up in the news for the craziest reasons. Today, Maggie, our only elephant, completed a long journey that began yesterday afternoon at the Alaska Zoo on O’Malley road here in Anchorage and ended with her arrival at the Performing Animal Welfare Society in central California.
This excellent graphic from the Daily News charts […]

There is something deeply satisfying about a wrecking ball crashing into the side of an old building that’s been a neighborhood eyesore for years. It’s doubly satisfying when the wrecking ball is painted up as a pumpkin in celebration of Halloween.
The Government Hill detail shop has been a disaster for years - a nasty business […]

I wrote below that there hadn’t been much tension in this series. Well, looks like that was a jinx - Garrett Atkins just hit a two run homer off of Okijima in the bottom of the eighth - the score is now 4-3 and the Rockies are still at bat. But in comes Paplebon!
Here are […]
