The Artsy Slat Rat in the City of Angels

This evening I arrived in LA for the annual Western Arts Alliance (heretofore referred to as “WAA”) annual conference. I’m attending in my role as an Anchorage Concert Association Board member. As regular readers are aware, I attend tons of conferences, but this is my first ever arts conference. I must say, the vibe is distinctly different than that of my usual tech-geek conferences. Lots of enthusiastic arty types zooming about.

My flight down was uneventful - except for the lack of luggage flying down with me. Hopefully it will arrive sometime tomorrow. I definitely won’t wow anyone with my t-shirt, casual pants, and sandals ensemble.

Oh - and the conference is in downtown LA at the Biltmore Millennium - a grand hotel in the classic old Hollywood style. I must admit that I didn’t realize that LA had a downtown. I thought that LA was just miles and miles of freeways, concrete, malls, and the occasional dilapidated palm tree. But amazingly, there is a downtown with tall buildings - just like any other city. It’s not bad.
