Scooter

Libby was convicted and sentenced - just like hundreds of folks. But the folks not named Scooter and who are not the Veep’s former chief of staff go to jail. They don’t pass go and they don’t collect $200. If Scooter were not an insider, his sentence would not have been commuted. Hundreds of other people do the same thing and pay the full consequences: fines, the real lifelong ramifications of being a convicted felon, and jail time.

One thing that I find disturbingly ironic is that the whole thing really smacks of a double set of standards: The Right Wing stance has forever been “Felonies are bad. Felons should go to jail.” However, the stance appears to have a caveat: “Unless, one of our guys committed the felony.”

I understand that this is politics as usual. But for me, this is very disturbing: Scooter perjured himself. Period. He should do the time. The ethics are flat out wrong.

And don’t even get me started on the lack of backbone and honor of the folks above him. Scooter took this one for the team - granted, the team pulled him out of the fire. But the truly honorable thing for Cheney and Rove to have done would have been to fess up. That’s what I was taught by my parents - which seems to me is one of those family value things that the Right Wing has wrapped themselves in for years and years. Walking the talk seems to be difficult for some of that crowd.
