Poor innocent Henry II. He had his right rear tire slashed today. Actually slash is a bit of an exaggeration. It was more like a few stabs and micro cuts. However, that was enough to completely deflate him. The current mystery is “When and where did it happen?”
At 11:00, Henry and I puttered over to […]

Good article in today’s NY Times on Alaska’s traditional boom and bust economy and what the next few years might bring. The opening paragraph pretty much captures Alaska business as usual:
SCOURING the tundra for the source of the next big boom is the Alaskan way.
Skin it, mine it, fish for it, drill for it.
It has […]

Wow! It doesn’t get much better than today. Especially for us sun and summer starved Alaskans. The official high was 73 degrees - which may not sound like much to folks elsewhere, but for us it’s a really big deal. Summer, sun, warmth, everything. Downtown Anchorage was packed: Summer Solstice Festival, Juneteenth, three cruise ships […]

We should all be so fortunate to have such wonderful friends and family. It was an honor to attend and what a good man Mark was. […]

One of my favorite baristas was sporting this button this morning. Warning: if you support President Bush or have delicate sensibilities, don’t click on the link.
Of course, I thought the button was very funny.

Mark Ertischek’s obituary was published in today’s Daily News. It is wonderful - one gets a real sense of who Mark was.
The on-line obit also has a very nice guest book feature. An excellent idea and it is very tastefully implemented. Already, Mark has three heartfelt entries.

I admit that Peter and I have been out of Sopranos action for the past two years. I sort of kept up vicariously. I knew when major characters such Adrianna and Christopher were whacked. But I was totally out of the loop on week to week doings.
However, I decided that I should absolutely watch the […]

A close friend of ours died suddenly (and completely unexpectedly) yesterday afternoon while hiking in the Lower 48. Peter and I have been pretty subdued this weekend. sigh….
