Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

This morning, I woke up at 5:30 AM to the unmistakable aroma of “Campfire”. The smell was very strong, even indoors. The smoke from the big South Central Alaska wildfires moved in to Anchorage over night. The smoke was so thick that one could actually taste the smoke. The light is also very weird - sort of an overall sepia ambiance.

The wind has really picked this afternoon. So much of the smoke has been blown away to some other poor community. I hate to say this, but what Southcentral AK really needs is rain. At this point, over 100,000 acres have burned.

Here’s the view outside my office at 9:00 AM this morning.

There are actually mountains behind those buildings. They’re just obscured by the pall.
