Not Bad at All
My surgery went quite well. It was a bit longer than I had anticipated - I foolishly thought that my two-for-one deal would only take about a half an hour. But I was out for almost two hours. I don’t have an official report yet, but I did get to look at some totally nifty pictures (well, nifty to a former biology major). The pics showed the endometriosis spots that were the cause of many issues over the past year and a half. So, I’m happy to get those nasty little guys and their associated adhesions out of the ol’ slat rat abdomen.
I’m tired this evening. But not very much pain at all. But that might be because the local anesthetics haven’t yet’t worn off. Fortunately, if things get out of hand, I have good drugs.
Speaking of good drugs, I violated one of my core principles this afternoon. I have a rule: If I am offered injected Demerol in a hospital setting, I will accept - even if I really don’t need it. I love Demerol - one sort of just floats away on a cloud. So, I think of it as a really fine wine that I rarely get to sample. So, if I’m offered a glass an ‘82 Mouton, I take the glass. Or the shot.
However today, I was in recovery and had a nasty headache. The nurse offered me a bit of Demerol to cut the headache pain. I declined - can you believe it?!!!!!! I didn’t want anything that would prolong the fuzziness. I wanted to clear the general anesthetic, so Mom could take me home.
Man, I can’t believe that I “just said no.”
