I think this year is going to be much like last year - no definitive moment as to when the ice goes out. Instead it’s sort of an oozy process. Quite a bit more ice definitely made it’s way out today. But there is still a noticeable amount around the edges.
I have a feeling that […]

We’ve had sunny weather for the past three days but the temperature has been a bit chilly. As a result, the lagoon ice cover is greatly reduced, but still present. So, Carol, Frankie, and Cory are all out of the running. It’s my guess that unless we have a gigantic earthquake this evening, those who […]

It’s a very odd year on the Lagoon Ice front - tons of open water very early on. However, the east half of the Lagoon is still basically ice covered. So, much for the ice going out this week.
Here’s a table of the all the entries. As you can see, JIm and Brad are already […]

The residents of the Partnow Manse were shaken awake at 2:37 AM this morning by a very hard jolt. It was just a little earthquake, just 4.1. But, it did hit with a big wham! It certainly got Tyge’s attention. He shot straight up from a sound sleep. It took him a bit of time […]

Today was the first day since surgery that I had enough oomph to toddle down to the Lagoon and snap some pictures. The ice is pretty far gone. I’d say it’s 2/3’s out. And actually, “gone” and “out” are probably the wrong terms. A significant portion of the ice has actually sunk down under a […]

Sad news this evening, David Halberstam died in a car accident today in California. Neither Peter nor I ever met Halberstam, but we owe our relationship to him. Peter and I met at a singles mixer (can you believe that?). As we were making our way through that whole awkward conversation thing, we discovered that […]

As both a certified geek and a certifiable baseball nut, I found CNET’s article on MLB’s on-line operations totally fascinating. Everything you wanted to know from the inner workings of those in-game game logs to MLB’s use of Service Oriented Architecture is covered.
Living in Alaska does not make one too terribly conscious of “black-out” rules. […]

Sorry about the dearth of Ice Classic Updates. I haven’t been strong enough to wobble my way down to the Lagoon and get some new photographs. However, I can see bits and pieces of the Lagoon from our bedroom window. The ice is all still there and there are also several big expanses of snow […]

It’s taking me a bit longer to recuperate that I had anticipated. I’m still pretty wobbly and not up to doing much - even though I thought I should have at least been able to meet the Sunday morning running group at New Sagaya for coffee. However, the Slat Rat body begged to differ. I […]

I’m puttering along on the recuperative front. I’ve been very lucky - just a small amount of pain which advil takes care of quite nicely. More than anything, I’m just massively fuzzy, pretty tired, and easily mesmerized. I’ve been watching Smallville DVD’s and have been absolutely hypnotized. Obviously, I still have a fair amount of […]
