A Steamy Mt. Spurr

One of our local volcanos, Mt. Spurr has been blowing off a bit of steam lately. Mt. Spurr is the closest volcano to Anchorage and we’ve been heavily ashed more than once. Trust me - from personal experience I can unequivocally state that cleaning up after a major volcanic ashing is one of the world’s worst cleaning jobs. It is ugly, strenuous, dusty work. It takes weeks, months, and even years. That stuff just does not go away.

Anyhoo, I digress - the current steaming is normal and not indicative of an imminent eruption. And it’s lots of fun to look across the inlet and check out the steam plumes.

I got an interesting picture on Monday night right after the sun set. You can see a small backlit plume on Mt. Spurr (the third peak from the left) - it almost looks like a halo.

Another most excellent shot. What does it look like in full resolution?

Oooh - thank you very much! And the full resolution picture is pretty much a bigger version of this one. Not much difference at all. I did a little photoshopping, but not much. The colors were definitely not photoshopped. Just tweaked the lighting levels a small tad…
