Super Bowl

As I type, Pooh, the Ski Boy, Tyge and I are gathered around the HD LCD television preparing to participate in that most hallowed of American rituals: gorging on junk food, drinking beer, and watching the Super Bowll!!!!

The Boys

Let’s see, right now Bill Joel is singing the National Anthem. Evidently the over under on the time it will take Billy to make it through the Star Spangled Banner is 1 minute 40 seconds. And he slid in just under the wire: 1 minute 35 seconds!

Sigh…The Bears just won the coin toss. I hope this isn’t a bad omen. As you can tell, I’m rooting for the Colts. And good advertisements!

2:19 PM: Oh for God’s sakes. Hester’s return of the opening kick-off for a touchdown just sucked. At least 5 Colts could have nailed Hester within the first ten yards. Grrr….

2:25 PM: Blick - Manning interception.

2:28 PM: The light beer rock-paper-scissors ad wasn’t bad. The Dorritos ad was stupid.

2:30 PM: Tyge liked the Guinea Pig, Rabbit, Mouse ad. Definitely cute!

2:35 PM: Oooh - the Sierra Mist beard comb-over ad was sort of cute in geeky sort of way. Was that salesgenie ad was so lame.

2: 45PM: Wow - it’s pouring in Miami.

2:46 PM: Oh Oh Oh Oh!!!!!!!! Touchdown Manning to Wayne!!!!!! Yippeee…

2:47 PM: well crap - muffled snap. No extra point.

2:49 PM: The Fed-Ex moon office ad was fun!

2:50 PM: Ooooh - Bears fumbled the kick-off. Colts recovered.

2:51 PM: Colts fumble handoff. Bears recover. The Ski Boy thinks this looks like a junior high game.

2:52 PM: Bears 50 yard run. Ball on the Colts 5. ugh…

2:54 PM: Touchdown Bears.

2:58 PM: Omigod - the Chevy medley ad is terrible.

3:00 PM: The Letterman-Oprah spot was cute.

3:04 PM: Ooooh Bears fumble!!!!!! Colts recover!!!!

3:04 PM: Seth and Tyge are terrified by Steph’s howls of excitement.

3:16 PM: The GoDaddy ad was offensive. The big Coke musical number is fun but yet doesn’t really work.

3:21 PM: Successful Vinatieri field goal. The snap and hold worked this time around.

3:24 PM: Omigod - the Garmin ad was so campy - and not in a good way. Very lame. As a geocacher, I find that one embarrassing.

3:27 PM: I cannot believe how hard it’s raining in Miami.

3:28 PM: Pooh is retching on Jim Nance’s Black History Month pontificating.

3:29 PM: The CareerBuilder office in the jungle ad wasn’t hideous. But it was followed by yet another bad bad bad Doritos ad.

3:30 PM: What is up with Chevy and their ads? The “It’s Hot in Here” was just ridiculous. I guess it was a way to give the women viewers a little beefcake.

3:33 PM: Seth just remarked, “Tell us more about Black History Month, Jim Nance.”

3:34 PM: Touchdown Colts! Extra point good: 16-14 Colts.

3:35 PM: I’m wondering, “Is it a warm rain or a cold rain?”

3:35 PM: The boys, Seth, Peter, and Tyge, liked the slapping ad. I liked the following ad, where the poor heart gets beat up.

3:37 PM: Just kick it away from Hester.

3:39 PM: We all liked the GM yellow robot ad. Very cute.

3:46 PM: We all LIKED Sprint’s Connectile Dysfunction (CD) ad. Very funny and everyone has suffered from CD.

3:49 PM: What was that!!!!! Bears stripped the ball from the Colts receiver.

3:50 PM: Grossman fumbles. Colts get the ball. Whoa. All this rain - the ball is just ping-ponging back and forth.

3:51 PM: I have to say that at this point with 51 seconds to go in the first half, I have never seen a Super Bowl like this one. I love the rain - I think football should be played in real weather. It’s so rare that weather plays a part in the NFL Championship. It didn’t used to be that way. Remember the Ice Bowl.

3:56 PM: Omigod: Vinatieri missed a field goal!

4:08 PM: The Prince halftime show isn’t pretty good. But I am concerned about his doo-rag. Also, all that sound equipment in the pouring rain????

Here are a few more action shots of the boys.

Seth and Tyge I

They’re soooo cute! How can Frankie resist!
Seth and Tyge II

4:15 pm: Oooh, Prince ripped off that questionable doo rag - just in time for my favorite Prince song, Purple Rain. I hope he doesn’t electrocute himself in the rain during the guitar ride. Although as the song continues, it’s become pretty smarmy.

4:28 PM: Addai continues to reel off the yards. He has really come into his own.

4:29 PM: Seth thinks that Tom Moore, the Colt’s offensive coordinator, looks like Dumbledore. There is definitely a resemblance.

4:39 PM: Another field goal attempt. Oh boy…Whew - he made it even though the snap-hold was iffy.

4:45 PM: Dinner break!!!! Steaks grilled by the Ski Boy.

5:10 PM: Burp. I’m back after munching down steak grilled by the Master Chef!

5:19 PM: I missed the Kevin Federline commercial but according to Pooh, it was pretty lame. Kevin Federline rapping was just K-Fed rapping.

5:20 PM: It’s 22-17 Colts but I have to say that I think the Bears could still pull this one out. The Colts have been killed because of inability to put into the end zone.

5:21 PM: Ooops - Grossman just threw a lame duck that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. I”m wondering if the Bears will bring in Griese. I have to admit that I feel sorry for Grossman. If the Colts win, Peter and Sethy are voting for Grossman as the Colts MVP.

5:26 PM: The Don Shula-Jay-Z Vegas virtual football light beer ad absolutely sucked.

5:30 PM: Another Grossman interception. Peter called that one - when the Bears got the ball back, Peter predicted an interception within three plays. Well, it took four plays instead of three.

5:36 PM: Ooooh - the Bears finally sack Peyton.

5:43 PM: 5:40 to go in the 4th quarter, 29-17 Colts, Bears have the ball. I still think there’s a possibility that the Bears could score again. Of course, they need to convert this 4th and 9.

5:46 PM: Colts take over on downs.

5:48 PM: 2:54 to go in the game. MVP thoughts. Seth votes Addai. Peter thinks it will be awarded to Peyton. We all think that perhaps it should be the offensive line.

5:51 PM: o.k. the GoDaddy ad just pisses me off.

5:52 PM: o.k. we just saw the best ad of the whole Super Bowl - the NFL’s “It’s Hard to Say Goodbye” and the last image was of Brett Farve. Good stuff.

5:54 PM: Phil Simms and I have two things in common. The same hair and neither of us have a chin.

5:58 PM: Colts win!!!!!!!

5:59 PM: The first half was actually very entertaining. But the second half was all Colts. And I still feel very sorry for Grossman.

6:10 PM: Lombardi trophy presentation. It was fun to watch Don Shula walk through the line of Colts who were are all reaching out to touch the trophy. Sethy feels the Bears jinxed themselves at the outset by touching the trophy before the game was played.

6:12 PM: I’m barfing - the Colts owner thanking God. geez. Evidently God prefers the Colts over the Bears. Oh jeez, even Tony Dungy is invoking The Lord. Oh no - Jim Nance and the Social Significance.

6:14 PM: Peyton wins the MVP. I’m a Peyton fan, but I’m not sure he was the MVP. The O line or the running backs would also get my vote.

6:15 PM: This celebration is way too low key for me. These guys are no fun.

  1. Ski Boy responds:

Wouldn’t those more accurately be called “inaction shots?”

    sb

  2. Jeri responds:

Nice play by play! Our fave was the Bud Light hitchhiking axe/chainsaw guys ad. :) Did you know that you can go watch many of the ads at CBS’s website?

  3. sb responds:

Did you notice, by the way, that the one picture of Tyge battering Seth makes it look like Tyge has a huge body but a little pin head. Very weird. We all know that Tyge has a major melon.

  4. Steph responds:

Or is it Seth with the huge melon and little body?

  5. Pooh responds:

My head is of much more accurate size in these pictures then in the last set you posted…

  6. Leland responds:

I managed to sit that one out. Several people I know were there and in partial answer to your question, here’s what I know.

    - The lens on the cable camera (the close up overhead views) is completely flooded and is either totaled or will have to be completely disassembled dried, cleaned, possibly recoat the elements and reassembled. The zoom and focus motors and boards are all toast.

    - The handheld camera that took a tumble when the operator was hit is dead. Optical block and imager damage.

    - They lost some surround sound capability even before the game started. They lost more before half time.

    - The powers that be forbade tents in the press compound or the live shot risers outside the stadium. As a result lots of gear from local affiliates and the various network news crews got hosed off but good.

Sorry I don’t know anything about the half time show, no one I know worked on the stage. But you didn’t have to worry about Prince getting zapped off the guitars. He was using wireless transmitters on the pickups.

  7. Leland responds:

One more piece of trivia just crossed my computer. Sunday morning the entire TV compound went dark. The gadget that kept the all those turbine powered generators in phase checked out. That power glitch took out some of the equipment that embeds the Dolby sound in the HD-SDI lines. Engineers were unable to resurrect it completely by game time.

Don’t know if the failure was storm related or not.
