Saturday morning, I got my annual dog mushing fix. The second stage of the 72nd Fur Rendezvous and World Championship Spring Sled Dog Sprint Championships was taking off from downtown Anchorage. It was a gorgeous morning - but flippin’ cold: below zero - perfect sprint dog weather!
I took a ton of pictures. I’m still looking […]

Ooooh - the Ski Boy gave me my very own Dwight Shrute Bobblehead. It totally looks like Dwight and it’s actually a very well made bobblehead. Dwight would be so proud!
I think it’s most appropriate that Dwight live at the office, so I brought him into work today. He’s settled in amongst all my other […]

I saw this little bug this evening in Seattle’s Pioneer Square on my way from work at the Smith Tower to Elliott Bay Bookstore. Words actually fail me at this point - although Henry II is wondering if this might be a career opportunity.

As usual while visiting Seattle, I’m settled in at my home away from home, The Vintage Park. My accommodations were upgraded and I’m in a southwest corner room on the 8th floor. This room has an el primo view of the great architectural and functional marvel, The Seattle Central Library.
The view from my bed is […]

Last week, Jim one of my co-worker buddies, was down here in Seattle with his wife, Dawn. They planned on dining at Wild Ginger for Valentine’s Day. The following is a text exchange between Jim and myself regarding my favorite drink in the whole world, the Wild Ginger’s Satay Separator.
Text #1: Me to Jim:

As I type, I’m in Seattle. I’m down for a series of strategic planning sessions. Oh boy!
The Seattle weather, to be blunt, sort of sucks. Cold, rainy, and windy. The jacket I brought is not heavy enough so I’ve been shivering since I arrived. Of course, it was a whopping one degree in Anchorburg this […]

I really do think that Alaska is different from anywhere else. Two front page articles in today’s paper demonstrate our uniqueness.
First up, Gordon Wright was found dead on Wednesday. Gordon was a long time giant on Alaska’s classical music scene. He was both a conductor and composer. Back in my trumpet playing Anchorage Symphony Days, […]

Via one of my co-workers, Geostationary Banana Over Texas. At first, I thought, “This is obviously a farce.” But, as I clicked through the links, I began to wonder. I love the photos.

Very funny first person article by Michelle Slatalla in today’s New York Times on shedding pets, fur tumbleweeds, vacuums, and The Internet. The opening paragraphs are a hoot:
I ARRIVED home, opened the front door and stepped into what looked like the set of a movie being shot on location in the Old West.
Huge tumbleweeds of […]
