I got back to Anchorage late last night - I had the brilliant idea of moving to an earlier flight - one that left at 7:15 PM instead of 7:55 PM. Well, when 8:00 PM rolled around, we were still on the ground and didn’t get off until 8:30 PM. And of course, the headwinds […]

One of my favorite Seattle Buildings is the The Arctic Building. A wonderful old building with the best gargoyles ever - walruses!!!!!!
This morning, our walri had a light covering of snow. It looks as if they’re wearing yarmulkes and talismens

So, I woke up in the middle of the night, looked out my hotel room window and thought, “Am I in Seattle or in Anchorage?” It was snowing! Of course, traffic is a disaster this morning and schools are closed. Fortunately, I always walk when I stay in Seattle, so all I have to worry […]

As I type, I’m ensconced at my home away from home, The Vintage Park. Life is not bad at all.
I flew down this afternoon. As we landed in Seattle, I was greeted by a very strange sight - snow on the ground. I don’t think I’ve ever seen snow in Seattle. Definitely odd. The temperature […]

Late this afternoon (after watching the Patriots steal one from the Chargers), I got a wild hare. The weather was so perfect: 25 degrees, and a dusting of new snow . I just couldn’t stand it - time to try skijoring with Tyge again. We went out once last winter, but we’d only had Tyge […]

Last night, The Anchorage Concert Association presented Garrick Ohlsson - one of the world’s finest pianists and hands down, my absolute favorite. The concert was magnificient:
Beethoven’s Pathetique: You have never heard the Pathetique played so true to the music yet is such a stunningly original manner.
Brahm’s Variation and Fugue on a Theme by Handel: I […]

Two Alaska giants died this week: Bradford Washburn and Ruth Jefford. Washburn was a renowed climber, cartographer, amazing mountain photographer, and scientist - he died at the age of 96. What a life he lived.
Ruth was a renaissance woman - she arrived in Alaska in 1941 and was a pioneer bush pilot. This back in […]

Tyge’s breeder, Judy (Sleeping Lady Bouviers) lives way up on the Hillside (foothills, base of the mountains sort of thing). I grew up on the Hillside - the weather up there can be frightening: 60 mph winds are a regular occurence. 100+ mph winds blow several times a year.
Yesterday, I borrowed Hubert (Peter’s Lexus 300 […]

Delta is in talks with Northwest and is trying to avoid a takeover by US Airways. Ever since my debacle last summer with Northwest Airlines, I’ve watched their business doings. After I read the today’s little blurb, I IM’d the Ski Boy - he will never forgive Northwest for last summer’s nasty little experience.
His response […]

Way up here in the frozen north, we’ve just spent the past 30 minutes ooohing and ahhhhhhing over the just unveiled iPhone. We all expected the phone to have a high cool factor. But the iPhone blew everyone away!!!!! We want one. Now!!!! Of course, “Now” will be tricky. The phone is exclusive to Cingular. […]
